Diversity Weekend

The weekend of June 4th and 5th 2011 was our Diversity Weekend to celebrate the diversity of cultures within our church.

After much plannng over several months the event was a great success - many thanks to those who worked so hard to make it take place.

From 5.30pm on Saturday 4 June there were displays on show in the coffee lounge from different continents. Unfortunately our Antipodean member was not available to present a display.

Master of Ceremonies

The British contribution was not very visually attractive but there were readings, and music from John and Mervyn. And Catherine finished off the event, which she had introduced, by singing "If I ruled the world" from Pickwick, an item from the last church pantomime in which she performed. Very British!

Food

The evening finished with the usual most popular item. FOOD!! Dishes from many different places filled three tables and there didn't seem to be much left over at the end.

On Sunday morning Rita led a service which continued the theme of diversity. We again had singing from the African singers. The displays were still available for those who were not present on Saturday to see. Altogether a very successful weekend. £143 was raised for the Church Charity of the year, St Luke's Hospice. We must do it again and not leave it 14 years this time!!

Those of us who still had any energy left after the service gathered outside the church for a photo shoot.
