Our Harvest Festival Service took place on Sunday 4 October. But preparations started the previous afternoon. Some of us went to the allotment where Mr John Harding grows his dahlias for shows. When the shows are complete he very generously allows us to take a selection from the remaining flowers to decorate the church. We are very grateful for that.
Once the flowers were cut they were taken to the church and left in water overnight. Then on the Saturday morning the Flower Arrangers got to work. John Harding came to watch them and to take pictures of his flowers. A display of vegetables was also arranged.
On the Sunday morning Rita led a celebratory service, including a good selection of traditional and new hymns. The congregation brought forward gifts of food and toiletries to go the Harrow Women's Refuge and of money to go to 'All We Can', the Methodist Relief and Development Charity.
The gifts were taken to the refuge the following week and were very gratefully received. A letter from them is on the noticeboard. £404 was raised for 'All We Can'.
